Ms Fifty First St. back to one turn for Rainbow Miss
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Ms Fifty First St. will return to what she does best Saturday, when she cuts back to one turn for the $100,000 Rainbow Miss Stakes at Oaklawn Park.
“We’re going into it real positive,” trainer Al Cates said.
The Rainbow Miss is a six-furlong stakes for 3-year-old fillies bred in Arkansas. The field of eight includes Dutch Parrot, a leading contender who will be scratched, according to trainer Will Van Meter. She was to run in a two-turn race Thursday at Oaklawn.
“We’re hopeful she’s going to develop into a nice route horse for us, which is kind of the deciding factor,” Van Meter said.
Ms Fifty First St. is all in and will have her own cheering section Saturday.
“The owner, Eugenia Thompson, when she was growing up in North Little Rock, that was the street she grew up on,” Cates said. “We kind of have a 51st Street following.”

KEY CONTENDERS
Ms Fifty First St., by Street Hero
Beyers: 29-69
◗ She was a memorable debut winner here in February, taking a maiden special weight against older Arkansas-breds. Ms Fifty First St. then moved to both open company and two turns March 16 and set the pace for six furlongs in a 1 1/16-mile allowance before ending up ninth.
“We’re not sure she liked the two turns last time, plus it was a tough field,” Cates said. “We worked her back the other day, and she worked really good. She’s eating good, and we’re hopeful she’ll run a good race.”
◗ Ms Fifty First St. earned a field-best Beyer Speed Figure of 69 for her maiden win at six furlongs. She set the pace and scored by 2 1/4 lengths in 1:10.80.
“We were kind of worried she had the 1 hole, but Ricardo Santana was on her that day, and he did just a great job of getting her away from the gate,” Cates said. “Once he did that, we were just real confident. She was just training so good.”
◗ Geovanni Franco, who rode Ms Fifty First St. in her last start, has the mount from post 6.
“We’re hoping she’ll break good,” Cates said. “I think she’ll be close. I don’t think she’ll be too far out of it.”
Superstar Bea, by Kantharos
Beyers: 60-63-55
◗ She is a maiden facing winners, but she was a good third to Ms Fifty First St. in February at Oaklawn.
◗ Superstar Bea started her career on grass but has put up her best Beyers in her two dirt starts at Oaklawn.
