Mr Ritz takes them all the way in Seagram Cup

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – A razor-sharp Mr Ritz ($12.50) led all the way under Patrick Husbands in Sunday’s Grade 3 Seagram Cup Stakes at Woodbine.
Over a Tapeta surface that favored inside speed, Mr Ritz set fractions of 24.88 seconds, 48.57, and 1:12.20 in the 1 1/16-mile route. Mr Havercamp, the 7-10 favorite, stalked in second throughout before fading to fourth in deep stretch, as Mr Ritz won by a 1 1/4 lengths in a time of 1:42.75.
Thor’s Rocket came inside from fourth to end up second at 66-1. Special Forces rallied wide from last to edge out Mr Havercamp for third in the eight-horse field.

“He [had] everything his way,” Husbands said. “He wasn’t getting tired [in the stretch]. He just got bored. And that’s why I hit him again.”
Trainer Josie Carroll was noncommittal regarding Mr Ritz’s next start. The son of Oasis Dream earned $75,000 of the $131,500 purse for owner Earle Mack.
“This is just a really nice horse who I believed was going to improve this year, and he’s proving us right.” Carroll said. “He runs well on the turf, but he thrives on the synthetic.”
