Mr Money Bags, Algebra likely won't run again until next year

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Mr Money Bags and Algebra will both sit out the upcoming Stars of Texas Day program on July 17 at Lone Star Park and will likely return to action this winter at Sam Houston Race Park.
Mr Money Bags won a pair of Texas-bred stakes last season at Sam Houston. He was preparing for a start in the Wayne Hanks Memorial Stakes earlier this month at Lone Star, but was forced to miss the race won by Algebra.
“He was breezing, getting ready for the race, and was injured,” said Jaylan Clary, who trains Mr Money Bags for Erma Cobb. “He’s going to have some down time, probably until Houston. We plan to bring him back. It will just be a little time.”
Mr Money Bags is a past Texas-bred horse of the year and an earner of nearly $700,000.
Algebra emerged as a Texas-bred of note during the most recent Sam Houston meet, where he won an allowance and ran second in both the $75,000 H-Town won by Mr Money Bags and the $100,000 Star of Texas. During the Lone Star meet, Algebra has won all three of his starts, including an allowance that scratched down to two horses. The other horse in the race was Mr Money Bags.
Algebra won the Wayne Hanks Memorial over 6 1/2 furlongs June 19.
“He’s going on a vacation,” said trainer J.R. Caldwell. “I thought about running him [Stars of Texas Day] at a mile on the grass, but he’s just going to have a vacation. In the fall, Texas-breds are between a rock and a hard spot. I don’t want him tired and burned out for next year. We’ll focus on getting prepared for Sam Houston.
“We’ll have him fresh and ready to roll.”
Algebra races for Farmers Fillies Racing.
Lone Star wraps up its season July 24 in what is the final Thoroughbred meet in Texas until the opening of Sam Houston in January. Gillespie County Fair runs a mixed meet in Texas from Saturday through the end of August. The eight-date season features races for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses.
