Mr. Jordan, Richard the Great to meet again in Sunshine Millions Classic

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A rematch among Florida-breds exiting a graded stakes will be a main storyline Saturday at Gulfstream Park when Mr. Jordan and Richard the Great run in the richest of four races comprising the 16th Sunshine Millions.
Mr. Jordan and Richard the Great were second and third, respectively, behind Fear the Cowboy here last month in the Grade 3 Harlan’s Holiday, and both should appreciate the Florida-bred restriction for the Sunshine Millions Classic and the other three supporting events in the $600,000 series.
Here is a quick rundown of starters expected by Gulfstream when Sunshine Millions entries were drawn Wednesday:
◗ $200,000 Classic: Mr. Jordan, Richard the Great, Crocodile Charlie, Flemish Cap, and Jay’s Way.
◗ $150,000 Turf: Charlie Mops, Enterprising, Galleon Mast, Manchurian High, Our Way, Second Mate, Spring Up, and Swagger Jagger.
◗ $150,000 Filly and Mare Turf: Bitacora, Bonia, Daddy’s Boo, Elizabeth Aurora, Josdesanimaux, Katinka, Starship Julilee, and Surprise Wedding.
◗ $100,000 Sprint: X Y Jet, Mo Cash, Sheikh of Sheikhs, Quijote, and Bold Envoy.
In recent years, the Sunshine Millions races were run prior to the Eclipse Award ceremonies held the same night at Gulfstream, but the Eclipse dinner has been moved to a Thursday night (Jan. 25) this year.
