Mr. Jagermeister snapped a seven-race losing streak in a big way Wednesday night at Canterbury Park, where he blasted to a 4 3/4-length victory in the $50,000 10,000 Lakes Stakes.

Drop of Golden Sun took an early lead, setting splits of 21.91 and 44.19 over the glib Canterbury main track, but Mr. Jagermeister raced with interest from the start, pressing the leader, overwhelming him in upper stretch, and drawing away to a decisive score under Ruben Fuentes. Mr. Jagermeister ($4.40) stopped the timer in a dazzling 1:08.54 while racing six furlongs over a fast track. Drop of Golden Sun clearly held second with Cinco Star third.

Mr. Jagermeister won half of his first 22 starts, never losing more than three in a row, before taking a string of defeats starting in March 2020 that included a loss at odds of 1-10 in the 2020 renewal of the 10,000 Lakes. Mr. Jagermeister, making his first start following a long layoff, finished a fine third in the $150,000 King Cotton Stakes on Feb. 6 but was well beaten in three subsequent Oaklawn Park starts before dominating Minnesota-bred competition Wednesday. A 6-year-old, Mr. Jagermeister is by Atta Boy Roy out of Frangelica, by Corinthian.

Trained by Valorie Lund, who owns the horse with Kristin Boice and Leslie Cummings, Mr. Jagermeister won the 10,000 Lakes in 2018. Hot Shot Kid, the 2019 and 2020 winner of the 10,000 Lakes, ran below form Wednesday and finished sixth.

Trainer Mac Robertson surely was disappointed in Hot Shot Kid’s showing, but ran one-two in the $50,000 Lady Slipper for Minnesota-bred fillies and mares, with Clickbait 4 1/2 lengths better than Ready to Runaway. Clickbait paid just $4.20 to win, though Ready to Runaway was narrowly favored.

Clickbait, by Lovango out of Blue Gene Song, by Buddha, was timed in 1:09.77 for six furlongs while winning her first stakes race. Cecily Evans rode the winner, who is owned by Hugh Robertson, John Mentz, and Jeff Larson.
