“If he’s able to get that distance, it opens up some nice races this spring and summer,” Kimmel said, referring to the Grade 2, $500,000 Brooklyn at 1 1/2 miles at Belmont on June 6.
Mr. Buff has been prolific at 1 1/8 miles, winning six races in as many tries in such races at Aqueduct, including victories in each of the last two years in the Alex M. Robb for New York-breds and the Jazil.
On Sunday, Mr. Buff worked a sharp half-mile in 47.40 seconds over the Belmont Park training track, getting his last quarter in 23.32 seconds.
