Mr. Boomer takes Pepsi Cola Handicap

Mr. Boomer became a stakes winner on Saturday when he darted to a length and three-quarter win over a full field of New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds in the $132,450 at Sunland Park. C.G.'s Dollar finished second, a length and three-quarters clear of third-place finisher Abullwithapurpose.
Sandias Peppermint, the favorite, and Leon's Bull, who were co-highweighted at 122 pounds, finished a respective seventh and 11th.
Mr. Boomer raced in fourth behind Abullwithapurpose, who set a pressured pace of 21.88 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.78 seconds for the half-mile. The eventual winner went on to win the six furlong race in a time of 1:11.19.
Alex Jimenez rode Mr. Boomer for trainer Chris Hartman. The colt earned $79,470 for the win, and now has a record of two victories from seven starts for earnings of $101,448. Mr. Boomer races for Henderson Stables.
