Mr. Big colt tops Northern California sale
A colt by Mr. Big was purchased for $45,000 at Tuesday’s Northern California yearling and horses of racing age sale at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, becoming the most expensive horse at the sale.
The one-day sale which had a higher average price than in 2018, but lower than the 2017 event. Overall, there were 105 horses that sold for $608,500, an average of $5,795. In 2018, 117 horses sold or $537,200, an average of $4,591. In 2017, the sale had an average price of $6,868.

The yearlings were by far the strongest aspects of the sale in both years. Tuesday, 92 yearlings sold for $558,700, an average of $6,073. In 2018, 102 yearlings sold for $499,600, an average of $4,898.
Tuesday, there were 24 horses withdrawn and 55 listed as not sold.
The Mr. Big colt was purchased by Legacy Ranch from the consignment of Harris Farms, agent. The colt is out of Perched, who was third in the 2013 Barretts Debutante at Fairpex Park.
Perched, by Into Mischief, is the dam of Traffic Stopper, a filly by Cross Traffic who has finished second and sixth in maiden special weight race for California-bred 2-year-old fillies at Los Alamitos and Del Mar this summer.
The next yearling sale in California will be conducted by Fasig-Tipton in Pomona on Sept. 26. Barretts Sales ceased operation last year after 28 years in the California market.
