It didn't take Dana Whitney long to regain his groove. Riding at Mountaineer Race Track for the first time since Dec. 13, Whitney was aboard three winners during Monday night's nine-race card.

In January, Whitney made a brief attempt to break into the big time at Santa Anita, but he came back to West Virginia after going 1 for 22 in Southern California.

One of Whitney's three wins came when he guided the 9-year-old gelding Sataniste to a 5 3/4-length victory in a one-mile race for $15,000 claimers. It was the 21st victory in 76 starts for Sataniste, who was making his first start since moving to the barn of Doug Shanyfelt. In 42 starts at Mountaineer, Sataniste has 15 wins and 10 seconds.

There were no takers at the claiming box for Sataniste, running for a tag for the first time since last March. Last season, he dominated the local $5,000 starter allowance series, winning four times between May and October.

In 2003, Sataniste was claimed five times in a row, for prices between $4,000 and $5,000, from June through October.

* Raid the Parade ($12), a 4-year-old gelding ridden by Brian Marcial for trainer Tom Short, enjoyed the stretch-out from six furlongs to a mile and 70 yards in last Saturday's seventh race. Making his sixth start, Raid the Parade crushed a field of maiden special weight rivals by 15 1/4 lengths and earned a 77 Beyer Speed Figure, 15 points higher than his previous best.
