Mountaineer: Ramseys win President’s Cup with Prissy

CHESTER, W.Va. – The hot streak for Ken and Sarah Ramsey and Mike Maker is not limited to Kentucky or New York.

The dominant owners were represented by another winner Saturday when Prissy held off a race-long challenge from Soft Whisper to capture the $100,000 West Virginia Senate President’s Cup, part of an all-stakes, nine-race card at Mountaineer Park.

With Alan Garcia riding, Prissy finished the mile and 70-yard turf race in 1:39.58 over a firm course and returned $6.60 as second choice. Soft Whisper, the 6-5 favorite, finished a length behind the winner and another three lengths before Ask Me Anything in a field of eight fillies and mares.

Prissy, a 4-year-old filly by the recently deceased Unbridled’s Song, was making her stakes debut and is now 4-for-6 lifetime.

Jeff and William Ramsey, the Ramseys’ son and grandson, were in from Lexington, Ky., to lead Prissy into the winner’s circle.

$100,000 Mountaineer Juvenile: Rosie Napravnik opened the card with an easy front-running score aboard Rise Up ($6.80), a colt by the recently deceased Rockport Harbor. Bisque chased throughout as the runner-up, while Joedini, the odds-on favorite, could do no better than third.

Rise Up is trained by Tim Hamm for his main clients, the Blazing Meadows Farm.

$100,000 West Virginia Legislature Chairman’s Cup: Brooklyn Cowboy ($14.20) outsprinted odds-on Comisky’s Humor from the bell, holding sway to win the 4 1/2-furlong race by 1 1/4 lengths. Bet Seattle ran on to be third in a field of six.

Brooklyn Cowboy, ridden by Jose Montano, is trained by Maryland-based Damon Dilodovico, who is best known as the trainer of the sprinter Immortal Eyes, an earner of more than $865,000.

$100,000 West Virginia Secretary of State: Ms. Anna Destiny ($10) got a terrific trip from just off the pace to take the six-furlong race by four lengths. Ricardo Santana Jr. was aboard for trainer Brad Cox, who claimed the 5-year-old mare for $32,000 in May at Churchill Downs for owner Lloyd Schwing. Flattering Bea was up in the final jump to get second from Amie’s Dini, the 6-5 favorite among 10 fillies and mares.

$100,000 Mountaineer Juvenile Fillies: Silver Valley ($6) gave Santana back-to-back four-length victories when forging to the front at the quarter-pole and coasting home over Deliver. Ron Moquett trains Silver Valley, a daughter of Silver Train, for Bowman Racing LLC.

“Ricardo gave her a great ride,” Moquett said from Saratoga.
