Mountaineer groom dies in action

Lisa Jackson, 35, a groom at Mountaineer Park in Chester, W. Va., died from injuries sustained during a training accident Thursday morning.

According to published reports, Jackson, who worked for trainer John Semer, was holding a horse for an exercise rider to mount when the horse bucked and took off. Jackson attempted to catch the runaway horse but was run over.

Jackson was taken to East Liverpool City Hospital in Ohio, where she died from severe head trauma.

The police, the track, and the West Virginia Racing Commission are investigating the incident.
