Mountaineer cancels two cards due to power outage
Mountaineer Park in West Virginia canceled Monday’s live race card due to power outages caused by a rapidly moving storm that struck the area surrounding the track Sunday afternoon, according to the track’s general manager.
Jim Colvin, the general manager, said that the storm knocked out power to the track’s lighting system and that the track is still having trouble maintaining power for its bet-processing network. The electrical problems caused Mountaineer to cancel its Sunday night card as well.
“We’ve got two contractors working on it right now and we’re hoping we get back up and running soon,” Colvin said.
The storm raced through the northwestern arm of West Virginia, where Mountaineer is located, at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, Colvin said. The storm dropped heavy rain from northern Ohio through New England along its path.
Mountaineer is currently running on a Sunday-through-Wednesday live racing schedule. Colvin said it was uncertain if the track would run live on Tuesday night.
“We’re working as fast as we can,” Colvin said.
A casino adjacent to the track is not suffering from any power issues and remains open, Colvin said.
