Mounsieur Coco leads one-two finish for trainer Gutierrez in Proud Man

Mounsieur Coco backed up an impressive maiden win with an equally eye-catching stakes victory Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where he rolled home by 4 1/2 lengths in the $65,000 Proud Man.
Mounsieur Coco won in hand over stablemate Mariachi Crush to give St George Stable and trainer Fausto Gutierrez a top-two finish in the 5 1/2-furlong race for 2-year-olds. It was another head back in third to Cheerful Charlie. The Proud Man was run on the Tapeta.
Mounsieur Coco ($3) broke well and tracked J R’s Pride through an opening quarter in 21.95 seconds. Mounsieur Coco moved past J R's Pride soon afterward, while covering a half-mile in 45.84 seconds. He went on to win in 1:04.16.
Mounsieur Coco came into the Proud Man off a 6 1/2-length win in a maiden special weight at Gulfstream. Miguel Vasquez was aboard for that race Aug. 20 and had the mount again Sunday.

Mounsieur Coco is a son of Bolt d’Oro. He has now won 2 of 3 starts and earned $64,210. Mounsieur Coco is a half-brother to sprint stakes winners Mojo Man, an earner of more than $550,000, and Fight To Glory.
Upset in Miami Shores
Twelve Volt Man ($15.20) launched a sweeping bid on the final turn en route to a half-length win over 8-5 favorite Chocolate Bar in the $55,000 Miami Shores. The 1 1/16 miles race for 3-year-olds and up was run over a fast main track Sunday.
Twelve Volt Man settled off fractions of 24.42 for the opening quarter and 48.22 for the half-mile. In the stretch, he engaged Chocolate Bar and the pair battled to the wire, with Twelve Volt Man covering the distance in 1:44.15.
Edwin Gonzalez was aboard the winner for Magic Cap Stable and trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. Twelve Volt Man is a son of Violence who is now 5 for 10.
