Morse looks to double up in Rainbow Miss, Rainbow

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Trainer Randy Morse will be going for an Oaklawn Park stakes double Saturday, when he sends out One Way Or Another in the $150,000 Rainbow Miss and Where’s Randy in the $150,000 Rainbow.
The races will be run at six furlongs, and both are for 3-year-olds bred in Arkansas.
Morse won the first Arkansas-bred stakes of the meet in March, when Connie K took the $150,000 Downthedustyroad for fillies and mares. The barn has another capable filly in One Way Or Another, who could go favored in the Rainbow Miss.
“Hopefully, she runs good,” said Morse, who trains One Way Or Another for D D Stables.
One Way Or Another owns the field’s best career Beyer Speed Figure, a 74 for her debut win over Arkansas-bred fillies and mares in a maiden special weight Feb. 11 at Oaklawn. One Way Or Another returned March 18 to face colts in a first-level allowance for 3-year-olds bred in Arkansas and finished third as the favorite. She set the pace in both races, but is not one dimensional, Morse said.

“I never expected her on the lead,” Morse said. “I don’t want her to be sent, as she has been the first two times. She’s very rateable in the mornings. I don’t want to rush her. I want to let her get her feet underneath her. I think she’ll finish better.”
Jon Court will ride One Way Or Another for the first time Saturday. She will start from post 3.
One Way Or Another is by Street Strategy, a Morse trainee who won 6 of 11 starts led by the Fifth Season at two turns at Oaklawn.
Randy Patterson raced Street Strategy. He’s also the owner of Where’s Randy, racing the son of Flashback in partnership with Morse. The colt was named for both men by Patterson’s daughter Sara Patterson.
“People will ask her, ‘Where’s Randy,’ ” Morse said.
It’s a question Sara Patterson often gets at the races, and it can refer to either her father or his longtime trainer, Morse.
Where’s Randy was a maiden special weight winner over six furlongs Jan. 29 at Oaklawn. He was fourth last out in a first-level allowance in which he broke last, rushed up, and made a big middle move going six furlongs March 18.
“I think he got in a little bit of a hurry,” Morse said. “He went from last to second on the middle of the turn. I think if he waits a little longer, he’ll finish better.”
Morse will remove blinkers Saturday.
Court will be aboard Where’s Randy for the first time when the colt breaks from post 5.
Where’s Randy started his career in December and was second in a maiden special weight at Oaklawn.
“He probably should have won his first start,” Morse said. “He got in a lot of trouble. I think he really is going to want to go further.”
One Ten Stadium could go favored following his win over some of these in the March 18 allowance. In that race, he also defeated the filly One Way Or Another. David Cabrera has the mount for William Sparks and trainer Ron Moquett.
