Joao Moreira already has 108 winners during the 2020-21 Hong Kong season, best on the circuit by 18 over Zac Purton, and he may be sitting on at least two more steamers on Sunday at Sha Tin.

In the featured Cheung Lin Shan Handicap, a Class 2 over 1,400 meters, the last of 11 races on the card, Moreira reunites with Silver Express, who should fit this spot beautifully for trainer John Size. Size earlier on the card will give Moreira a leg up on Courier Wonder in the D’Aguilar Peak Handicap, a Class 2 over 1,200 meters, carded as eighth race.

Courier Wonder, just a 3-year-old, has started his career like a future star. He debuted Oct. 24 in a Class 3 handicap, went to the lead, and won by 5 1/4 lengths. Raised 14 points in the ratings by the Hong Kong handicapping team, Courier Wonder carried 121 pounds racing at the Class 3 handicap level in his second start. Again, he went to the lead and won in a romp, cruising home by 3 1/2 lengths with Moreira never asking Courier Wonder for any sort of serious effort. Another 14-point rating rise and Courier Wonder now totes 133 pounds in a Class 3, yet will widely be expected to notch another victory, especially with Moreira pouring praise on his mount.

“I’m very confident. He hasn’t got close to the top of where he’s going to get to,” Moreira told Hong Kong Jockey Club publicity. “He gets us very excited about what he’s going to do next season.”

Silver Express faces 13 foes in the nightcap, breaking from post 3 under 122 pounds. The 4-year-old was given a shot in the 2,000-meter Hong Kong Derby on March 21, pressing the pace, taking the lead in upper stretch, but fading to ninth at a distance beyond his best. Two races ago, in a Class 3 handicap over 1,400 meters. Sunday’s distance, Silver Express had to work a bit to make the lead from an outside post but still powered home by 2 1/4 lengths under 133 pounds.

There are several other Class 3s on a solid card that kicks off at 12:30 a.m. Eastern. You can catch all the action at DRFBets.com.
