More strangles precautions

Monmouth Park has joined several other tracks in setting requirements for horses shipping there from racetracks and training centers in Florida and Kentucky.

Horses must have a certificate of veterinary inspection dated within two days of their arrival. The certificate must include a declaration by the examining vet that the horse has not been under quarantine for or exposed to strangles, a bacterial infection, has not shown signs of the disease, and has not had a fever in the previous three weeks.

In Canada, Fort Erie has joined Woodbine in barring horses from Florida until the strangles situation there has been cleared up. Among the trainers who had planned to ship in from Tampa Bay Downs or Ocala-area farms this week were Tom Agosti, Rod Cone, Nick Gonzalez, Bill Greaves, Judy Hughes, Paul Nielsen, John Simms and Debbie Simpson.
