Moran has shown he gets along with Foxy Diva

Michael Burns Pietro Moran, who rides Foxy Diva, leads the Woodbine jockey standings.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Pietro Moran’s five-win Sunday gave him a 17-14 lead in the Woodbine jockey standings over Rafael Hernandez heading into this week.

Moran, last year’s Eclipse and Sovereign Award-winning apprentice, rides the consistent comebacker Foxy Diva in Friday’s sixth race at Woodbine, a mare the now journeyman is quite familiar with.

Moran rode Foxy Diva to victory in a seven-furlong sprint for $25,000 non-winners of three types on Sept. 4. She went on to run third in an open $25,000 claiming route before capping her 2025 season Nov. 6 with a blowout score in a 1 1/16-mile starter allowance, for which she got a career high 77 Beyer Speed Figure under Moran.

On Friday, Foxy Diva competes in a 6 1/2-furlong starter/optional claimer from post 6 for trainer Steve Attard, who entered her for waiver claiming.

Also entered in the sixth are Sheshimaintenance, Hard to Capture, Chipotle Pepper, Voice From Above, Founder’s Day, and Happy Valentine.

Sheshimaintenance could go favored off her sixth-place finish in an April 25 restricted stakes on the grass at Gulfstream Park, where she won three in a row over the winter on dirt and turf. Slade Jones rides her for trainer Zeljko Krmcar.

Hard to Capture put together a productive 2025 campaign, winning two of 10 starts, mostly at Friday’s level, for owner/trainer Devon Gittens. The closer earned a 77 Beyer when scoring over 6 1/2 furlongs in July. She has gone winless since, finishing third with the aid of an inside bias in her May 8 seasonal bow under regular rider Skye Chernetz.

Chipotle Pepper was claimed for $5,000 at Mahoning Valley in December, when she came up empty on the dirt. After getting the winter off, she led all the way with the benefit of an inside-speed bias in a lesser starter/optional claimer going 6 1/2 furlongs here May 2.

Emma-Jayne Wilson will ride Chipotle Pepper again for trainer Gord Colbourne, who began this meet by winning with three of his first eight starters.

Voice From Above was bet down to an odds-on price when a wide fifth after running against the aforementioned bias May 8. That was her first outing in five months, and she should be much fitter for the experience. Trainer Phil Hall has a 10 percent strike rate second time off a layoff, with a positive return on investment.

The Gittens-trained Founder’s Day beat out Voice From Above for fourth on May 8 after setting soft fractions along the inside before tiring. She did her best running from off the pace last year, during which she compiled a record of 1-6-2 in 14 starts, which all came at Gulfsteam.

Happy Valentine plunged from allowance/$32,000 company to $7,500 claiming for her second race off a freshening May 2. Sent off as the 4-5 favorite, she finished a clear second while claimed by owner/trainer Dominic Polsinelli, who has fared well with his claimed runners in recent years, most notably Society’s Thunder.

Post time for the seven-race card is 1:20 p.m.
