Mor Spirit breezes for Robert B. Lewis Stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. – Mor Spirit, the winner of the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Futurity last month, worked five furlongs in 1:00.20 at Santa Anita on Thursday in advance of the $150,000 Robert B. Lewis Stakes on Feb. 6.
Trained by Bob Baffert, Mor Spirit races for Michael Lund Petersen and has won 2 of 4 starts and earned $288,400. He was second in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs on Nov. 28 in his stakes debut.
The Grade 3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes is run at 1 1/16 miles and is a prep for the $1 million Santa Anita Derby on April 9.
On Thursday, Baffert also worked Collected, the winner of the Grade 3 Sham Stakes at Santa Anita on Jan. 9. Collected worked six furlongs in 1:14 and is a candidate for the $500,000 Southwest Stakes at 1 1/16 miles at Oaklawn Park on Feb. 15.
Baffert lost a promising 3-year-old last Sunday when Arabian Leopard was euthanized after suffering sesamoid injuries in an optional claimer on turf at Santa Anita.
Arabian Leopard was third in the Eddie Logan Stakes on turf Dec. 31. The colt was owned by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and was purchased for $575,000 at a sale of 2-year-olds in training in Ocala, Fla., last spring.
