Moqadama can improve on last race

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Trainer Mark Casse runs the steady Irish-bred Moqadama in the ninth race on a rare Saturday without a stakes at Woodbine.
Moqadama was competitive on synthetics last fall in England before joining Casse’s string this year. The closer overcame a sleepy pace to graduate in her second local outing in a nine-furlong maiden special on June 26 on the Tapeta.
Moqadama didn’t seem to fire her best shot most recently when moving up to the first-level allowance/$32,000 claiming option level that she’ll contest Saturday. After racing in seventh early, she mounted a wide rally to finish fifth in that inner turf route.
Declan Carroll will break Moqadama from the outside post 7 on Saturday, when she moves back to the Tapeta at 1 1/16 miles.

◗ In the co-featured fourth race going 5 1/2 furlongs on the main track, Casse sends out Adversity and Astrological. Astrological was essentially eliminated during a troubled break before ending up fifth in her first allowance attempt on Aug. 12.
