By the Moon finishes major work for Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint

ELMONT, N.Y. – By the Moon put the finishing touches on her major preparations for the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint by working five furlongs in 1:00.68 on Monday morning over the Belmont Park main track.
Exercises rider Tomesh Singh never moved his hands on By the Moon as she cruised through an opening three furlongs in 36.00 seconds and got her final quarter in 24.68. She galloped out six furlongs in 1:14.93.
“She breezed very good, I was happy with her,” Singh said.
“If he’s happy, I’m happy,” trainer Michelle Nevin said. “She’s so easy, she does everything pretty freely. You can do whatever you want with her. The last two works it’s been time to pick up the pace, and she’s been right there for him.”
By the Moon, fifth, beaten three lengths in last year’s Filly and Mare Turf Sprint, has had five works in the last 25 days and all her serious work has been completed. Nevin said she may let By the Moon stretch her legs Saturday before she flies to Del Mar on Sunday, or may give her an open gallop at Del Mar.
