Monticello: Sharp Seven dominates in New York Sire Stakes
Sharp Seven was a front-stepping 1:56 3/5 winner of a $115,000 New York Sire Stakes contest for sophomore trotting fillies on Monday afternoon at Monticello Raceway.
Driven by Matt Kakaley and sent off as the favorite, Sharp Seven went right to the top from post one and cut fractions of 28 4/5, 59 1/5 and 1:28 4/5. Sharp Seven was stalked from the two-hole by second choice Who Dares Wins (Johnathan Ahle), but when she broke late on the final bend, it was all Sharp Seven to the wire, as she won by eight lengths over Flying Copper (Jim Taggart Jr.). Jula Hot To Chill (Greg Merton) also went off-stride in the lane but wasn't found to have violated any breaking rules, so she kept her third-place result.
A daughter of Chapter Seven bred by Fred Hertrich III, Sharp Seven is trained by George Ducharme for owner Purple Haze Stables LLC. She has a summary of 9-4-1 from 21 starts, has earned $556,475 and paid $3.26 to win.
