Senorita Palema lowered the track record for a 2-year-old filly trotter at Monticello Raceway from 1:57 3/5 to 1:56 4/5 in a New York Sire Stakes victory on Monday afternoon. Also winning divisions were Seven Year Itch and Sister Mary Maude.
Driven by Mark MacDonald in the $35,200 event, Senorita Palema fired out from post five and led by open lengths at the 28 3/5 quarter and 57 3/5 half. Senorita Palema expanded her margin on pocket-sitter Jeannie's Action (Jordan Stratton) to six lengths at the 1:27 1/5 three-quarters and then tacked a 29 3/5 final kicker on for good measure to defeat Jeannie's Action by 14 lengths. Karolina Solveig (Joe Bongiorno) came in third.
A daughter of Chapter Seven bred by Winbak Farm, Senorita Palema is trained by Ake Svanstedt for owner Bender Sweden Inc. A $150,000 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale purchase, Senorita Palema has two wins and two second-place finishes from four outings and has now earned $65,400. Senorita Palema was the 1-2 choice and paid $3.10 to win.
Back in the first $34,500 split, 1-5 favorite Sadbirdstillsing (Tyler Buter) put up fractions of 29 4/5, 1:00 3/5 and 1:31, but Seven Year Itch (Stratton) made steady first-over progress into contention after vacating the pylons from fourth on the way to three-quarters and out-footed the chalk through the stretch drive to prevail by a head in 2:00 1/5. My Special T (Jeff Gregory) got third.
Trainer Vernon Beachy also co-owns Seven Year Itch, a Steve Jones-bred Chapter Seven filly, with partners Ryan Smith and Gitup Racing. Seven Year Itch, who was bought for $20,000 at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, has a record of 2-1-0 from five starts, sent her bankroll to $38,731 and returned $6.10 to win as the 2-1 second choice.

Sister Mary Maude (Joe Bongiorno) extended her win streak to five in the second $35,200 tilt. She got away in third from post one but moved to the outside prior to the 29 2/5 quarter and took the lead away from Star Attraction (MacDonald) past that station. From there, Sister Mary Maude was well-rated through a 59 2/5 half and a 1:29 2/5 three-quarters en route to a three length triumph in 1:58 3/5. Star Attraction held off a first-over Erin (Dan Daley) for runner-up honors.
By Crazy Wow and bred by David Hanson, Sister Mary Maude was sent out by Ron Burke for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., William Switala, James Martin and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. This was her fifth victory from six lifetime starts, she has now pocketed $77,521, and she paid $2.90 to win as the favorite.
