Monticello: Quincy Blue Chip romps in the raindrops

Quincy Blue Chip, debuting for new connections, picked up a gate-to-wire 1:56 2/5 victory in a single $118,800 New York Sire Stakes race for sophomore filly trotters on Monday afternoon at Monticello Raceway.
Racing through a downpour that started during the contest, Quincy Blue Chip (Jim Morrill Jr.) went directly to the front from post two and led the way through fractions of 28 4/5, 59, and 1:27 4/5. A first-over Stella Jane (Corey Callahan) was unable to reach Quincy Blue Chip as they raced to three-quarters, and that meant the pace-setter had plenty left for the final quarter as she closed in 28 3/5 while in-hand. Sensibility (Scott Zeron) worked out a pocket trip from the pole position and held second, with Winndevie (Jason Bartlett) coming on for third after following the cover of Stella Jane.
A daughter of Chapter Seven, Quincy Blue Chip was making her first start for co-owner/trainer Rich Banca and co-owners James Boese and Barbara Boese after being purchased for $335,000 in an online auction earlier this month. She now owns a record of 10-6-1 from 18 appearances, and she has now pocketed $456,483. The 1-5 favorite, she paid $2.60 to win.
