Monticello: Keystone Cash posts fastest win in NYSS

Derick Giwner|Jul 09, 2018

Keystone Cash was by far the fastest winner as Monticello Raceway hosted four $27,750 divisions of the New York Sire Stakes for 2-year-old colt and gelding trotters on Monday afternoon.

Sent off as the lukewarm 3-2 post time favorite, Keystone Cash waited in third early behind fractions of 30 2/5 and 1:01 before making a quick brush to the front. Once in charge the son of Chapter Seven-Keystone Cola cruised by three quarters in 1:30 and sprinted the final panel in 29 3/5 for the easy win.

Captain Krupnik flashed speed at both ends of the mile to secure second while Skyway Kon Man rallied nicely at the end of the mile for third.

Trainer Jimmy Takter was in the bike behind Keystone Cash for owners Howard Taylor, Judith Taylor and Order By Stable. The victory was the colt’s first career win in two starts.

The afternoon of Sire Stakes action began with Gimpanzee putting up fractions of 31, 1:01 3/5 and 1:32 2/5 as part of his wire-to-wire 2:01 4/5 victory. Leap Year Lucky used his early speed to secure position and finished second just ahead of the late-finishing Light Come On.

Odds-on favorite Horns For Three broke while sitting third off the second turn.

Gimpanzee ($7.60) was driven by Brian Sears for trainer Marcus Melander and the ownership tandem of Courant Inc and SRF Stable. Monday’s winning effort was the first start of the career of the son of Chapter Seven-Steamy Windows.

Matching the 2:01 4/5 winning time was longshot JNR Express in the third division on the Monticello card.

Jake Gs Champion posted the early fractions of 30 2/5 and 1:01 4/5 before Certify rushed to the front approaching the 1:32 1/5 three quarter marker. Tracking Certify was JNR Express and he uncorked a strong final quarter to get up right at the wire for driver Jimmy Marohn, Jr.

The 29-1 winner, a colt by Conway Hall-Yankee T L C, is trained by Jessica Okusko for owners James De Armond and Russell Young.

Wrapping up the afternoon for the top NYSS colts was a wire to wire victory by 3-5 favorite Cavill Hanover in 2:02 4/5.

Trainer/driver Ake Svanstedt set fractions of 31 1/5, 1:03 and 1:33 2/5 while never having an anxious moment during the mile.

Our White Knight saved ground for second. Fashion For Credit was placed third after Chip Chip Conway broke in the stretch.

Cavill Hanover, a son of Muscle Mass-Cr Calendar Girl, is owned by Little E LLC, Vanersol Inc and Wolfgang A Stable Inc.

Due to the win by JNR Express, the Pick 5 went uncovered. A carryover of $1,828 will be up for grabs on Tuesday’s card.
