Monticello: Fragment dominates in New York Sire Stakes

Fragment improved to three-for-three since adding Lasix in late June thanks to a 1:52 2/5 victory in Monday afternoon's $119,700 New York Sire Stakes event for 3-year-old male pacers at Monticello Raceway.

Driven by Jason Bartlett, Fragment left from post five and cleared Hunting Glory (Jim Taggart Jr.) for the lead prior to the 28 second opening quarter. From there, Fragment was unchallenged through middle-half panels of 56 1/5 and 1:24, then closed in 28 2/5 to defeat Cooperstown Boy (Colin Kelly) by 7 3/4 lengths. Hunting Glory wound up third.

Per Engblom trains Fragment, a colt by Huntsville, for owners Engblom Farm LLC., Douglas Sipple and Peaceful Acre Farm. Bred by Steve Stewart, Black Creek Farm, Michael Robinson and South Mountain Stables, Fragment has 13 wins and three seconds from 21 efforts, has pocketed $879,857 and returned $2.10 to win.

The program also included two $20,000 New York Excelsior Series divisions that were won by:

--Casper The Ghost (by Huntsville and bred by Steve Jones, paid $5.38 to win) in 1:55 for driver Brent Holland, co-owner/trainer Ray Schnittker and co-owners Ted Gewertz and Ma3 Racing Stable;

--Aries Blue Chip (by American Ideal and bred by Blue Chip Bloodstock Inc., paid $2.24 to win) in 1:52 4/5 for driver Jason Bartlett, trainer Deborah Daguet and owner Forrest Bartlett.
