Monmouth: Sparkling Number sprints clear

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Sparkling Number took on the boys in the Anderson Fowler on July 22, and found her own gender an easier group in the $50,000 Candy Eclair Stakes for

3-year-old fillies at Monmouth Park.

Sparkling Number, the 2-1 second choice, broke to the lead and never faced a challenge, covering the five-furlong turf race in 56.58 seconds. Sparkling Number, trained by Linda Rice, finished 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Carsonality. Glamour Tour was third.

Sparkling Number ($6.20), who was ridden by Jose Ferrer, improved to 3-2-1 in seven career starts, all of which have come on the turf. She also won the Ocean Hotel Stakes for 3-year-old fillies earlier this meet.
