OCEANPORT, N.J. – Bettors who gave up on Geeky Gorgeous certainly regretted it Sunday at Monmouth Park.

Geeky Gorgeous, who hadn’t been higher than 8-1 in her last 11 starts, rallied from off the pace at 14-1 under Joe Bravo to win the $127,000 Regret Stakes by 2 1/2 lengths. She returned $30 to win.

She’s Ordained finished second by three-quarters of a length over Same Cross.

The Regret, originally scheduled for Saturday with a purse of $75,000, was moved to Sunday and had its purse bumped up because it drew a quality field.

Geeky Gorgeous, a New Jersey-bred daughter of Devil His Due owned and trained by Danny Lopez, finished sixth at 5-2 in the Blue Sparkler here June 22. She made amends Sunday under patient handling from Bravo.

Geeky Gorgeous now has a record of 6-3-3 from 13 career starts.

“Danny Lopez is a good horseman, and he didn’t bring her over for no reason,” said Bravo, who hadn’t ridden Geeky Gorgeous since her debut Sept. 3, 2011, when she finished third at 20-1. “Had plenty of horse down the backside, they went fast, and she took over from there.”

Bravo had Geeky Gorgeous in the second flight of horses as My Place Anytime ran a quarter in 21.81 seconds, pursued by Glamour Puss, Irish Exchange, and She’s Ordained.

Bravo swung Geeky Gorgeous four wide turning for home, and her momentum carried her past She’s Ordained. Geeky Gorgeous ran six furlongs in 1:11.04.

“I told Joe, ‘Let her fall out of there and be four or five off of it,’ ” Lopez said. “A quarter of a mile out of the gate, I knew she was going to be awful, awful tough because he had her placed perfectly. I knew when he asked her to run, she was going to fire.”
