Monmouth Park cancels Sunday card in advance of Hurricane Irene

Mike Farrell|Aug 26, 2011

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Monmouth Park has canceled the Sunday card due to the expected arrival of Hurricane Irene.

Both live racing and morning training are washed out. The scheduled feature, the Grade 2 Molly Pitcher for fillies and mares has been postponed until Sept. 3. The race, which had attracted six runners, will be redrawn.

The Saturday card is still set to go with first post at 12:50 p.m. on what could be a wet afternoon as the Jersey Shore feels the initial effects of the storm predicted to hit with full force between 4 a.m. and noon on Sunday. The Saturday card will be run with shortened post times.

Parx Racing also announced the cancelation of its Sunday program.
