Monmouth, Meadowlands, to reopen Sunday

DRF Staff|Jul 02, 2006

Monmouth Park, will be open for live racing and The Meadowlands will be open for simulcasting on Sunday, according to the web sites of the two tracks.

Both tracks stopped taking simulcast wagers at 6 p.m. Saturday and the The Meadowlands canceled its evening standardbred card as a result of New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine having issued an executive order Saturday directing an "orderly shutdown of non essential state services" after a constitutional deadline passed without the state having a new budget in place.

According to a release issued by the Meadowlands, an appellate court has issued a stay of the closure of the two racetracks by the budget-induced shutdown of state government until a hearing can be held later on Sunday.
