Monmouth: Capeside Lady cruises

The team of Todd Pletcher and jockey Chris DeCarlo combined for three winners at Monmouth Park, including a victory by Capeside Lady in the $70,000 Monmouth Beach Stakes.

Capeside Lady ($4.40) bounced back strongly on the return to her favorite surface at her home track.

The 4-year-old Capeside Lady made her season debut in the Fort Monmouth Stakes on the turf. She raced close to the pace in that race before fading to seventh.

Back on the main track, Capeside Lady got a ground-saving ride from DeCarlo on the rail.

Capeside Lady rated nicely at the start and scooted through an opening to the inside of Game Card approaching the final turn.

"At the half-mile pole there was room on the inside," DeCarlo said. "I knew to go then rather than wait and get caught behind. When she hit the front, she just drew off."

Capeside Lady rolled to a 5 1/2- length win. She ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.08.

It was the third stakes victory at Monmouth for the New York-bred Capeside Lady. She captured the Grade 2 Monmouth Oaks and the off-the-turf Little Silver Stakes last summer. Both were run on wet tracks.

Twist and Pop, winner of the Lighthouse Stakes at Monmouth in September, rallied for second in her season debut. Chrusciki was third.

Pletcher and DeCarlo also combined for wins by Lemonetta ($4.20) in fifth and Grand But One ($10.20) in the seventh.

* Lakes Tune ($36.40) bounded right to the front and was never headed in the $55,000 Crank It Up Stakes for 3-year-old fillies going five furlongs on the turf. She beat Wild Chick by a half-length.
