Momentum continues as Keeneland September closes Book 4

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A colt from the first crop of Outwork sold for $220,000 as the Keeneland September yearling sale concluded its fourth book still showing marked gains.
A total of 290 yearlings sold during Wednesday's session, the ninth of the 13-session sale overall, for gross receipts of $12,880,500. During 2018's corresponding Book 4 finale, 272 horses sold for $9,019,400.
The session's average price was $44,416, a gain of 34 percent from $33,160 in the comparable session last year. The median was $35,000, up 59 percent from $22,000. The buyback rate was 22 percent, compared to 20 percent.
To this point of the sale, a total of 1,872 yearlings have sold for $343,173,700, with four sessions remaining, making this the fifth highest-grossing Keeneland September sale all time. The cumulative average price currently sits at $183,319, trending upward 12 percent from $163,017 through four books last year. The 2018 average price finished at $129,331, a sale record.
Charles Marquis stretched to $220,000 to acquire the session-topping Outwork colt from the consignment of Warrendale Sales, as agent. The colt is out of the Lookin At Lucky mare Westside Tapstress, a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Discreet Hero and stakes-placed Purple Princess. She is also a half-sister to Cajun Two Step, the dam of Grade 2 winner Informed.
