Molly's Honour holds off late surge in stakes win
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Molly’s Honour held off a surging Expect Royalty by a head to become a stakes winner in Saturday night’s $50,000 Lane’s End Stallion Scholarship at Lone Star Park. It was another three lengths back in third to Lasting Bubbles.
Molly’s Honour broke well from post 10 in the 7 1/2-furlong turf race for Texas-bred fillies and mares and pressed Lasting Bubbles through six furlongs in 1:10.61. Molly’s Honour drove to the lead in the stretch and covered the distance on a course rated firm in 1:29.03.
“She broke sharp,” said Cliff Berry, who was aboard for trainer Karl Broberg. “She just sat off the lead horse, relaxed a little down the backside, and it helped us down the stretch.”
Molly’s Honour races for Joe Davis, a prominent owner who said the stakes win was his first at his home track of Lone Star. Molly’s Honour earned $30,000 for the win, which was her fifth from 16 starts. Her earnings now stand at $150,728. Molly’s Honour is a daughter of the Danzig stallion Etesaal.
