Mojo Man draws outside of speed in Send It In Army Stakes

Mojo Man won the draw for the $65,000 Send It In Army Stakes on Wednesday at Indiana Grand.
Now, he’ll try to win the race.
Mojo Man is facing five others in the six-furlong stakes, and will start from post 6.
“It’s a great post,” said Jimmy DiVito, who trains Mojo Man. “In a race like this, the inside is a little tougher when you’re sprinting. We should be okay.”

The Send It In Army for 3-year-olds and up is one of two stakes on the card. The $65,000 Clarksville is for fillies and mares at the same six-furlong distance.
Mojo Man has tactical speed, and his outside gate could give jockey Orlando Mojica options against front-runners I’m Corfu, Long Weekend, Home Base, and Rock N June Bug.
“At times, he lays close to the pace,” DiVito said. “It all depends on how the pace goes. If they go a half-mile in 43 like they did last time, he’s not going to go that fast early on.”
Mojo Man comes out of the $98,000 Iowa Sprint on July 3 at Prairie Meadows. He rallied from last for third in the quick-paced sprint, won by Special Reserve, who covered six furlongs in 1:08.14.
“The Iowa Sprint – 1:08 is pretty darn fast,” DiVito said. “He tried. He gave a good try. He always puts in a good effort.”
Special Reserve earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 101 for the win, which was his fourth in his last five starts. The horse’s recent string of victories includes the Grade 3 Maryland Sprint at Pimlico.
As for Mojo Man, he’s worked at Arlington Park since the Iowa Sprint, breezing five-eighths on the synthetic track in 1:03 on July 16.
“We thought this was a good spot for him,” DiVito said. “It looks like he should fit well in the race.”
Mojo Man, who is 8 for 28, races for Dash Goff.
Home Base exits a fifth-place finish in the $107,000 Kelly’s Landing, an overnight race won by Bango on June 25 at Churchill Downs. Bango is riding a three-race win streak, having won the Aristides at Churchill, the Kelly’s Landing, then the Good Lord last out at Ellis Park.
Mundaye Call will be making her third start off a layoff in the Clarksville. She was fifth by three lengths in the Grade 1 Madison on April 3 at Keeneland in her first start of the year, then last out ran second by three-quarters of a length in the $100,000 Memorial Day Sprint on May 31 at Lone Star Park.
Mundaye Call missed the break in the latter start and came rolling in the six-furlong race, for which she earned a Beyer of 88. It’s the best last-race number in the Clarksville. Florent Geroux has the mount from post 4 for OXO Equine and trainer Brad Cox.
