Moira wins Fury Stakes, and now it's on to Woodbine Oaks

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Moira held off a fast-closing Pioneer’s Edge to prevail in her season debut in Saturday’s $125,000 Fury Stakes, an important prep for the next month’s $500,000 Woodbine Oaks.
Moira mounted a four-wide rally from near the rear of the seven-horse field to assume command from favored Aubrieta in the stretch of the seven-furlong sprint for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies.

Pioneer’s Edge awaited room on the turn and early in the stretch before rallying in the final furlong to finish a head back in second, while Aubrieta weakened to third ahead of Souper Flashy.
The final time was posted as 1:22.81.
Moira was the third winner on the card for Rafael Hernandez, who got a leg up from trainer Kevin Attard on the daughter of Ghostzapper.
“Today was an important step to get her ready for the Oaks,” Attard said. “That’s the ultimate goal right now. We needed to get her to the races. We were a little behind the eight-ball. A lot of these fillies have already run, and we were making our first start. It was important getting a race into her, and winning makes it extra special. I’m ecstatic the way she ran. I think she’s going to move up of this race dramatically. I’m looking forward to the Oaks.”
Moira returned $6.50 and earned $75,000 for the partnership of X-Men Racing, Madaket Stables and SF Racing.
