Race 1
(3) LATE SHIFT was a decent Grassroots performer last year, although she couldn’t break through with a victory. She looks well-prepped to take on fellow maidens here and she stands a solid chance of graduating. (6) PERFECT MASS – a $47K Harrisburg buy – is worth a look off her April 28th qualifier. (7) MASS PSYCHOLOGY is a half-sister to $289K winner Covert Operative and she also looks ready to contend off the shelf here. (9) ROYAL WITCH took a check in a Grand Circuit race here last year. She’s not out of this.
Race 2
(6) R U MACHIN ME didn’t get involved last time, but he did still pace home in 27 2/5 and now he goes for Moreau off the claim. Aggression can be expected here. (1) RAIN GAUGE drops to the level where he last won on this circuit and he can be expected to get put into play early here, too. (5) R M HAWK goes for a trainer that has only started one other horse so far this year, but has been known to improve horses off the claim in the past. (8) HIGHLAND BOGART seems likely to take another small share.
Race 3
(8) J J MYSTIC STORM gets a notable driver change here in a field where he fits well. I would expect that Henry will be blasting with this gelding. (2) OFORPETESAKE drifted out badly down the lane last week, but the winner was not going to be caught anyway. A similar effort could get the job done here, even if he drifts out again. (7) ASTERISM picks up Roy in a race that appears to have few contenders on paper; using. (9) ACEFOURTYFOURXMAN is worth a look at a price for exotic plays here.
Race 4
(6) GOTTALOVEMYSHADOW showed late interest in her debut racing against a winner that stepped up to beat much better in her next start. She should be prominent here. (8) ROCKN OPIUM requalified well with a sharp final 1/4; using. (5) MACHING ME ZILLY had a tough trip in the same race as the choice. She could take this with a better trip. (3) DEPRIVED is worth a look for the bottom of vertical bets making her debut.
Race 5
(8) DAWN SHOOTER is worth a stab here off the Colin Johnson claim in a race that looks wide-open. (5) GYM CLASS STAR has been on a real roll out of town and he will take some catching here. (4) BALOO SANDS could sit a good trip near the front then pounce late; beware. (3) DORABELLA is a good one to use on the bottom of exotic bets, but she is unlikely to come out on top.
Race 6
(4) MR SHANAHAN is related to four winners from only four that have raced from the dam, including $432K winner Buddy Hally. There could be a lot more to this colt than what meets the eye from one qualifier. I’ll land here for my top pick. (8) TYMAL REIGN almost won the final of the Autumn series at a big price when last seen. She could be a square price here, too, and could jump up with a big effort as many Kadabra fillies do without warning. (2) PARKHILL NONSTOP moves to trainer Hudon after stopping badly while finishing with broken equipment. I’ll toss him in the Pick 4. (10) MAGIC MADDY has some potential and she could be rallying for a minor share at a price here.
Race 7
(3) WALTER MITTY was just short last time trying to chase down the favorite. He has had a promising start to his career and he rates highly here. (4) SAULSBROOK LANNY has been spectacular racing out of breeder/owner Brealey’s barn since coming west. He is a Pick 4 must-use. (1) TWIN B COWBOY raced against some good ones last year and he looks well prepped for a trainer that sends them ready, but he could be over bet and the top two are no easy marks. (6) BEYOMBO figures to come on late for another smaller share.
Race 8
(4) POWERFUL MISSION was sharp here last fall and she has won off qualifiers before. Note she has four wins and the other nine horses have 10 wins combined. (3) EURO GAP raced well off a break, closing quickly, and he is an obvious threat. (2) MAJESTIC MARVEL raced well in the same dash as Euro Gap. He could take this with a bit of racing luck. (9) JUST FOR YOU is worth considering off her solid qualifier on April 28th.
Race 9
(7) CLASSIC PRO’s qualifier over a good track on April 7th dwarfs what any of his rivals have done in races for purses. Roy will likely send this colt right down the road here. (1) DIAL THE BOSSMAN is a gelding that shipped west with a solid foundation and he also qualified sharply. He looks like the main threat. (5) BRAVE WORLD put in a solid effort in his 2017 debut, but he will likely find the top ones too tough. (6) DO LIKE A PRO rarely misses the top four and he adds Lasix here. Expect him to make the ticket again.
Race 10
(9) CHEYENNE FORD takes a big class drop here and he will likely attract a claim. He should be tough to beat. (5) CHARMBO ORBIT raced well off the claim at big odds last time. He can take a big piece of this with a decent trip. (10) OUTLAW GUNPOWDER is on a good roll, but post 10 could lead to him taking only a minor share this time. (2) BLUE LINE has done well for trainer Tyrell off the claim. Toss him in Tri and Super plays. (3) AMBLE OVER HANOVER is also worth a look for the bottom of exotic bets racing off the claim.
