Mohawk: Jamieson: “I don’t think I can beat Sweet Lou."

Driver Jody Jamieson rates Warrawee Needy as the best horse he has ever driven.

If you read one story on the major stakes races this Saturday at Mohawk, this should be your article of choice. It is always interesting to hear what the drivers and trainers of each contender has to say, and some of the quotes below will certainly surprise you.

Elegantimage

Tim Tetrick on Check Me Out: “I don’t think we have seen her best. I’ve been trying to race her as easy as I can.”

Yannick Gingras on Maven: “She was good at Chester, but for some reason she doesn’t like that track. She wasn’t bad gaited. She just rolled off stride.”

Gingras on June 8 track conditions: “The track was deep and horses were getting tired on the surface. Even the aged mares went slow.”

Goodtimes

Jody Jamieson on Knows Nothing: “He’s a different horse off a helmet. I just have to find a target to follow.”

Trevor Ritchie on Il Mago: “A lot of the (elimination) race I had horse and couldn’t use him.”

North America Cup

Jamieson on Warrawee Needy: “I love my horse. He is the best I’ve ever driven and I’m expecting a huge performance.”

Jamieson on Sweet Lou: “I don’t think I can beat Sweet Lou. If he falters a little bit, we have a chance.”

Rob Burke on Sweet Lou: "Won The West went in 1:47 and I think [Sweet Lou] is a better horse than him."

Jimmy Takter on Sweet Lou: “Nobody can beat Sweet Lou. He’s much the best.”

Takter on Time To Roll: “I like Time To Roll; he’s really good. I’m hoping for second money.”

Takter on Simply Business: “He’s not ready yet. In Canada you have to keep your hands in the hand holds and he’s really lazy.”

Gingras on A Rocknroll Dance: “Turning for home he had a lot of pace. There was no doubt in my mind he was a winner at that point if not for the interference.”

Fan Hanover

Tetrick on American Jewel: “She is getting her legs under her. We don’t know how fast she can go.”

Jamieson on Big McDeal: “Timmy (Tetrick) asked me after the race if I thought I could get by him if I had room and I said no. But I had tons of go. I had enough to get up the rail the last few feet but she was a little tired from me fighting with her.”

Takter on American Jewel: “I don’t think she’d be embarrassed by the boys. She would beat both of my boys (Time To Roll and Simply Business) for fun.”

Takter on Economy Terror: “I like Economy Terror; she’s a very nice filly. I don’t think she in our league.”
