Mohawk: Horses to watch from May 5 - May 9

Ken Walters|May 11, 2016

Thursday, May 5

CAJON THOMAS (NW2) brushed to the lead coming to the half, meet pressure and held gamely while all out in good time.

SOUTHWIND MONTY (NW1) left well, grabbed the lead, set a good pace and was much the best.

TOUGH AFFAIR (NW2) closed well from far back and earns a look in next race or two.

DAYLIGHT RUSH (NW1) cleared tired cover, chse uncovered and closed gamely for 2nd.

VEGAS DREAM (NW2) tucked early, pulled to the hafl, challenged, had aim but was second best to the pocket sitting favorite.

Friday, May 6

WARRAWEE PROTON (CLMHCP12/15000) closed strong, won going away and should take another.

MUSCIAL SPELL (NW7000) rallied well but a few steps too late coming through stretch traffic.

FIVE BELOW (NW7000) wired the field at 11-1 and held off the pocket sitting favorite to earn the win.

TWIN B SWEETHEART (NW3FM) was parked the mile, challenged the front-stepping favorite uncovered and tired. Better trip, better luck in next race or two.

PRINCESS KATIE (NW3FM) had far to come but finished well. Comes from winning barn and should get it done soon.

Saturday, May 7

UF BETTORS HANOVER (CLMHCP20/25000) closed a ton from the moon in last and has to be respected in next.

FASHION GODDESS (NW3700) tucked early, challenged the pacesetter in the lane, dug in but was second best.

BILBO HANOVER (NW13000) was nowhere to be seen until the stretch, then launched a strong finish to earn a check. Do not ignore this veteran.

DIVAS IMAGE (PRINCESS) closed too late but they knew she was there at the end.

CROCADILE CANYON (NW25000) sat to the rear, then came home strong and willing. Still sharp enough to win with right trip.

Monday, May 9

WINDSUN REVENGE (PRF) left to the lead, yielded, sat pocket wanting to move a couple of times, settled and was shuffled, flashed some late foot between horses and earns a long look especially facing weaker.

HILLSONATOR (NW20000) rushed to the lead, set a good clip and held stubbornly but was nailed by the pocket-sitting winner.

THE ROCK (NW2) came uncovered, challenged the speed, dug in but was nailed by the late closing tripped out favorite.

FLEET BUMBLEBEE (NW3) left well, took the lead, yielded, came uncovered, wore down the leader but was outkicked by the huge rally of the winner. Better luck next time?
