Mohawk: Horses to watch from May 29 to June 2

Ken Walters|Jun 04, 2014

Thursday, May 29

LUIGI (CLM8000) Left, took the lead, yielded, retook, opened up and cruised easily.

VILLAGE JESSICA (NW2FM) Set the pace under pressure all the way. Put away a parked challenger by the half, battled the eventual winner from there to the wire and just failed.

DOUBLEDOWN GASS (NW3) Set the pace at 22-1 and was nailed on the wire. Should be able to hold it soon.

A FEARLESS AFFAIR (NW1/3YOF) Left well, tucked, improved to the pocket at the third panel, battled gamely to the wire at 35-1.

Friday, May 30

MACHET ROCKET (NW2500FM) Broke before the start in last and took far back, began to rally coming to the third panel and came home fastest of all but had lost any chance.

ST LADS PEEPER (NW13000FM) Pulled uncovered to the half, rushed to the leader, challenged and dug in but flattened out late.

BRUSHSTROKES (NW5000FM) Left, tucked, pulled to the half, challenged hard and was second best.

PRAIRIE ILLUSION (NW9100FM) Got caught in a bad flow, had to go wide to the third panel, rallied strong and just missed but had too much ground to make up.

Saturday, May 31

JAC SPADE (CLMHCP15/20000) Was third over on the final turn and rolled home in good order.

HE'S WATCHING (SOMEBEACH) Wired the field leaving plenty in the tank putting the favorite away when challenged.

SING FOR ME GEORGE (NW15000) Put up quite a last quarter while roaring home to be second best.

CHAMPAGNE PHIL (NW5200) Was all out and game winning by open lengths in last, holding the favorite at bay the last panel.

Monday, June 2

MYSTICAL WISHES (NW1/3YO) Avoided trouble, brushed to command and drew away as much the best.

FIERY JET (NW1/3-4YO) Chased the winner home a game second best in last.

OPEN ALL DOORS (NW8300) Blew the doors off all but the winner in huge late charge last time out.

POLK DOT HANOVER (NW2FM) Left, tucked, pulled to the third panel, challenged the odds-on favorite, had aim but was second best. Might have needed one more reminder after she collared the speed and should get it done soon.
