Mohawk: Horses To Watch for May 24 - May 28

Ken Walters|May 30, 2012

Thursday, May 24

KING PETE (CLM10000) Finished very wide in last as the trailed fanned wide, wider, widest and still wider. His :26 1/5 stretch rally cannot be overlooked.

JUSTASMALLTOWNGIRL (NW1/3YO) Came wide from second over and pulverized the competition to win going away by nearly four lenghths.

APACH OF LUCK (OntS) Beaten favorite had too far to come in last and should make amends in next race or two.

Friday, May 25

REVEN UP (NW2) Got shuffled out as the pocket horse backed up, swung out a distant 3rd over as the top two got away and broke. Would have been a threat with better trip.

ARDOR LOCKE (NW8000FM) Beaten favorite was shuffled early, had to race 3rd ov and was forced to rally wide avoiding a bearing out leader. Can atone in next race or two.

CLASS OF O NINE (SBOA) Followed the winner wide from the moon struggling to avoid traffic, set down for her best shot a tic too late and was second in the photo.

ROCA REI (NW13000FM) Had bearing out cover to the lane, had to bide her time and check once to be sure of clearance, hit overdrive once free and won going away.

SHOW GIRL (NW5500FM) Flashed the best late speed but had to come from way back. Just missed a neck and could have won with better trip.

Saturday, May 26

INITIAL STRIKE (NW5000) Sat on the rail three-holed to the lane, angled out, slipped wide around a tiring horse, settled and exploded. Should have another win in store for believers.

SAFE HARBOR (NW3) Went down the road gamely second best to prohibitive favorite. The speed was not holding that night and with the right track, this one can romp.

ILLUSIONSDREAMS (CLMHCP20/30000) Raced with broken equipment and was hard to steer. Finished with good speed once in the lane but deserves another look with racing luck.

BETTERTHANCHEDDAR (OPEN) Was all wrapped up and tons the best in last. Stay with him for another.

Monday, May 28

MANCHURIAN (NW1) Left well to the top, yielded, sat racy in the pocket, pulled to follow the winner passing the third panel, chased the favorite, tucked the pocket, flattened early stretch in a fast mile.

LIFE DREAM HANOVER (NW2) Sat innocently at the rear in the final turn, angled out, came wide, took off like a rocket from mid lane.

PARTNER (NW2) Sat in the pocket the final turn, got shuffled as the leader folded, wiggled through a late opening hole and closed gamely but had lost his best shot. Beaten favorite should atone.

MACHAL ANGELO (NW2) Left, took the lead, yielded, sat an edgy pocket, got shuffled into the lane, slipped out and closed gamely in good effort.
