Mohawk: Horses to watch from August 5 - August 11

Ken Walters|Aug 12, 2014

Tuesday, August 5

NORDIC HOLIDAY (NW1/2-3YO) took the lead, yielded and was shuffled back, tipped to the wire, rallied gamely and ran out of track as the tiring pacesetter lasted on the lead.

A AND C ARTIST (NW2) left, tucked, pulled uncovered, challenged and took the lead heading home, finished gamely but the fresher late-closing favorite took it on the wire.

FOR A BETTOR TIME (NW2) dove to the rail turn one, raced second over to poor cover, gained more unwanted cover and was fourth over entering the lane. Rallied gamely and strongly but had too far to come.

WHITE BECOMES HER (OntS) put in a commendable down the road effort in last over a tiring track and was game but nailed on the wire. Beaten favorite will have her share of success.

Thursday, August 9

MR LOVER (NW2) put in a game uncovered effort in last but was outkicked by the fresher wake-up foe.

DEMANDING SAM (NW2) went down the road and was a wrapped up winner.

BEST RISQUE (CLMHCP8/10000FM) put in a valiant front-stepping effort under constant pressure and was game to the wire but could not stall the tripped-out pocket sitter.

Friday, August 10

TOUGHEST OF ALL (CLMHCP8/10000) was used hardest of all in last getting parked wide to gain the lead, yielding to the winner's brush, pulling to challenge and tiring in the lane. Better racing luck gets a visit to the winners circle.

PRAIRIE ILLUSION (NW5000FM) Finished with a full head of steam following the odds-on favorite's move and earns a long look for next.

MEA LILLEY MARK (NW2FM) was wide a long way clearing stalled cover and finished with a fourish to take home top prize.

NOBLE JILLY (NW2FM) followed the top one's wide move and matched strides all the way home to earn her own respect.

Saturday, August 9

BAD BOY MATT (NW2) finished strong from third over in last but had too far to come.

THE REV (NW6100) yielded the lead twice, sat pocket with pace to the lane, tipped searching for room, angled free too late but gamely rallied to get 2nd but may have had better luck if he had stayed on the rail waiting for room.

THUNDER STEELER (NW3000) was parked to the lead, set a good clip, rallied gamely to the wire but was tiring and could not last. A little luck will get this beaten favorite to the wire in next race.

E L TITAN (NW3) was parked forever to gain the lead then drew off in giant effort.

Monday, August 11

ORDER BY COMMANDER (NW4000) rallied late over a speed-favoring track and earns long look in next.

MMS LUCKY BOY (NW8100) finished well from third over and should be along in time soon.

CHINA PEARLS (NW8100) romped in last and seemed to have plenty left to take another.
