Mohawk: Horses to watch from Apr. 21 - Apr. 25

Ken Walters|Apr 28, 2016

Thursday, April 21

GERRIES SPORT (NW2) came uncovered and won convincingly looking like he can take another.

SOUTHWIND MONTY (NW1) rushed to the top, got away on the lead, opened up a bunch of lenghths but tired. Beaten favorite can atone in quick order.

LEGIONOFANGELS (NW1) was parked and used hard challenging the pacesetting odds-on favorite before tiring.

CANADIAN WRITER (CLM12000) was out a long way, challenged hard to the final turn and tired. Beaten favorite will be tougher if he makes the lead.

Friday, April 22

LAY LADY LAY (NW2FM) left, tucked, pulled uncovered to the third panel, challenged gamely uncovered but was second best to the pacesetting favorite.

HURRICANE HAZEL (NW2) pulled to the third half, tucked around tiring horses, rallied all out but was outfinished by the late closing odds-on favorite.

SOUTHWIND GEISHA (NW4FM) second choice took the lead, yielded, retook, set a pressed pace as the favorite gave her all and proved best.

MAPPOS MOENHAY (CLMHCP10/15000FM) tucked early, pulled to the half, followed good cover, rallied gamely but the winner closed strongest.

BEYONCES ROCKN (NW3000FM) made a huge final quarter move to win going away.

Saturday, April 23

HOUSE OF TERROR (NW8300) closed from the moon in wide flow through the stretch putting up a wicked :26 3/5 last panel. Do not ignore.

SHADES OF BAY (NW13000) wired the field convincingly in quick time and should be able to take another.

CROCADILE CANYON (NW25000) saved, tipped early stretch and closed strongly but just missed.

RAFA (NW3) saved, improved by early stretch, closed strongly up the cones to earn his check and some respect in next outing.

Monday, April 25

UNICAM BI (NW1) cut in too close taking the lead, bothered a few foes, yielded, sat pocket, tipped in the final turn and was best but taken down.

EXEMPLAR (NW20000) put up the fractions and could not last. Beaten favorite fell victim to track bias and should give it another try.

FLAHERTY (NW2) was only wire-to-wire winner on the evening and as such earns some respect.

THE ROCK (NW2) tested the speed racing uncovered a long way and was game to the end at 22-1.

SUGARSAM (NW3000) yielded early, broke, recovered and retook, sat a steady clip at 7-1 and was second best to late closing even money favorite.
