Mohawk: Captaintreacherous scratched from Pacing Derby

webmaster|Aug 23, 2014

Captaintreacherous, the 2013 Pepsi North America Cup winner and two-time Pacer of the Year, has been scratched from Saturdays Canadian Pacing Derby elimination.

Trainer Tony Alagna confirmed to the WEG media department Saturday morning that Captaintreacherous has been removed from Saturday night's race due to sickness.

"After jogging yesterday, we ran a scope down him because he was off his feed and he had a lot of mucus," said Alagna. "We pulled the blood on him, he is fighting off an infection and we just didn't think it was in his best interest to race him if he's not a hundred percent."

A four-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere – Worldly Treasure, Captaintreacherous raced last Saturday night at Mohawk, winning the Preferred pace in preparation for the Canadian Pacing Derby elimination.

Alagna noted it's disappointing to have to pull out of the race as 'The Captain' is undefeated is six career starts at Mohawk.

"Disappointing, but we don't want to compromise the rest of the year or the horse if he isn't a hundred percent,"

Owned by Captaintreacherous Racing and bred by the White Birch Farm, 'The Captain' has 23 career victories and career earnings of over $3.1 million.

Captaintreacherous glamorous resume includes victories in the Woodbine Entertainment Group's signature races for two and three-year-olds.

As a freshman in 2012, Captaintreacherous won the $1 million Metro Pace in a stakes recording equaling 1:49 2/5.

Last year as a three-year-old, 'The Captain' returned to Mohawk to capture the $1 million Pepsi North America Cup.

Alagna did confirm what the next move will be for 'The Captain'.

"We are going to ship him to Lexington and get him ready for the Winbak Pace at Delaware (September 18)."
