Mocito Rojo targets Good Lord Stakes at Ellis

Mocito Rojo, a multiple Grade 3 winner coming off back-to-back allowance wins at Louisiana Downs, is scheduled to return to stakes competition July 17 in the $75,000 Good Lord at Ellis Park, said trainer Shane Wilson. The Good Lord is a 6 1/2-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up.
“Mocito had a really sharp work last week,” Wilson said. “We’ve never been to Ellis. That will be a new experience for us.”
Mocito Rojo won a six-furlong allowance by more than eight lengths May 18 at Louisiana Downs and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 93. In his most recent start, he won a seven-furlong allowance June 6 at Louisiana Downs. He covered the distance in a sharp 1:21.70, good for an 88 Beyer.
Vice Versa, who was second to Mocito Rojo on June 6, came back to win a $25,000 claiming race at Lone Star Park on July 2. He was claimed out of that race by Wayne T. Davis, who owns Mocito Rojo.
