Mocito Rojo cuts back to sprint in allowance

Mocito Rojo, a multiple graded stakes winner of more than $850,000, will see action in a Tuesday allowance at Louisiana Downs.
He goes in the sixth race, a conditioned allowance for 3-year-olds and up over six furlongs.
Mocito Rojo, who is an 18-time winner, wintered at Fair Grounds, and in two starts at the track was seventh in the Grade 2 New Orleans Classic on March 20 and sixth in the Tenacious on Dec. 19.
“He ran a couple of poor races and we freshened him up,” trainer Shane Wilson said.
Wilson said the horse’s blood work was found to be off, which led to the time away.
“He’s back where he’s supposed to be, is working well,” Wilson said. “We’re going to try this spot. He can walk up to the front, doesn’t have to ship anywhere.”
Mocito Rojo, who is based at Louisiana Downs for Wayne T. Davis, is a multiple graded stakes winner at two turns. He makes a rare start at one turn on Tuesday.
“He’s never lost a sprint race,” Wilson said. “He’s won going six [furlongs], six and a half, and seven.”
