Mobil upsets Chris's Bad Boy

Ron Gierkink|May 01, 2004

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Mobil ($5.50) overhauled 1-2 favorite Chris's Bad Boy at the 70-yard pole before edging away to capture the Grade 3, $160,800 Vigil Handicap.

Chris's Bad Boy set fractions of 22.86 and 45.02 seconds in Saturday's seven-furlong race, while tracked by Anglian Prince.

Mobil stalked in third under Todd Kabel, and kicked in through the stretch to prevail by 1 3/4 lengths in a final time of 1:21.81. Awesome Action was another four lengths back in third in the five-horse field.

"I really felt before the race that Chris's Bad Boy would have everything his own way," said Kabel. "I was just hoping to be in striking range turning for home, and I was."

Mobil, trained by Mike Keogh, earned $96,480 for owner-breeder Gustav Schickedanz.
