Mobil Solution gets breakthrough win in Horizon Stakes

Mobil Solution got over a case of seconditis, breaking through with a victory in the $75,000 Horizon Stakes for Ohio-accredited 3-year-olds on Sunday at Belterra after a string of runner-up efforts this season.
Mobil Solution ($5.40), who broke from the outside post in the field of 10 for the off-the-turf event, was eighth soon after the start, but steadily made up ground down the backstretch. He was fourth after six furlongs, just over three lengths back as Lavaca, the longest shot on the board, led at that juncture with a split of 1:12.44. Luis Rivera tipped Mobil Solution out for a three-wide run around the far turn to bid for the lead. He took over once straightened away and quickly cleared the field, winning by 1 1/2 lengths. The final time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:46.85.
Rosco P. Coltrane rallied mildly late to be second by a half-length over Birdacious.
Mobil Solution, who is trained by Jeff Radosevich for owner Gerald Silver, ended his 2-year-old campaign by winning the Joshua Radosevich Memorial Stakes at Mahoning Valley. However, he opened this season with four consecutive runner-up efforts, including two good placings to older horses in stakes company. He was runner-up to stalwart Eightthehardway in the George Lewis Memorial Stakes in June, and then second to True Cinder in the Buckeye Native Stakes last month.
