GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- Mo Mosa was a commanding winner of the Grade 3, $400,000 Steve Sexton Mile on Monday at Lone Star Park, charging to a 3 1/2-length win over C Z Rocket. It was another half-length back in third to Silver Prospector. The race was the richest of five stakes making up Lone Star Million Day. The stakes were worth $1.1 million. Lone Star Million Day was run for the first time since 2011. Mo Mosa ($48.60 ) settled in third behind Hunka Burning Love, who jumped out to a clear lead after his primary pace rival, Warrior’s Charge, hopped out at the start. Hunka Burning Love was stalked by C Z Rocket while setting fractions of 24.70 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.83 for the half-mile, and 1:11.55 for six furlongs. Mo Mosa advanced three wide on the final turn, joined new leader C Z Rocket and Hunka Burning Love near the quarter pole, and rallied with good energy to cover the mile run on a sealed track rated muddy in 1:37.15. Ramon Vazquez was aboard Mo Mosa for trainer Mike Maker. “I was very confident in my horse,” Vazquez said in a post-race interview broadcast at Lone Star. “I’ve ridden him before and I know he’s a good horse.” Following the race, an objection by the rider of fourth-place finisher Hunka Burning Love was lodged against C Z Rocket. There was no change made to the order of finish. Mo Mosa won his second straight stakes following the Bosselman/Gus Fonner in April at Fonner Park. He is a son of Uncle Mo who races for his breeders, Perry Martin and Denise Martin. Laura’s Light wins on dirt Laura’s Light raced on dirt for the first time in her career in the $200,000 Oujia Board Distaff and came away a winner, overtaking pacesetter Raven’s Cry for a 4 3/4-length victory. It was another six lengths back in third to Curlin’s Journey. Laura’s Light ($3.60) stalked Raven’s Cry, as that one jumped out to the lead and set fractions of 24.14 for the opening quarter, 47.47 for the half-mile, and 1:11.70 for six furlongs. The eventual winner moved to the lead from there, and went on to cover the mile on a sealed track rated muddy in 1:38.02. The Ouija Board was originally scheduled to be run on the turf. Florent Geroux was aboard Laura's Light for trainer Peter Miller. Laura’s Light is a multiple graded stakes winner on turf and also is a winner on a synthetic track. She races for Gary Barber. Laura’s Light is by Constitution. Racing resumes Friday at Lone Star.
