Mo' Green auditions for Delaware Handicap in Obeah Stakes

The $100,000 Obeah Stakes at Delaware Park on Saturday is the local prep for the richest race of the meet, the Grade 1, $750,000 Delaware Handicap on July 15. Last year, trainer Larry Jones, who is based in Delaware during the summer, swept both races with I’m a Chatterbox.
On Saturday, Mo’ Green will be favored over 10 evenly matched rivals in the 1 1/8-mile race for fillies and mares. Her opponents include Power of Snunner, who will be returning to the stable of Tim Kreiser after making her last five starts for Joe Sharp, Money’soncharlotte, Lady Fog Horn, and Enterprising Lady.
The nine-race card also includes the $50,000 Stanton Stakes, a 1 1/16-mile turf race for 3-year-olds. The Stanton could produce runners for the Grade 3, $200,000 Kent Stakes on the Del Cap undercard.
Master Plan, trained by Todd Pletcher, likely will be favored in the Stanton. A well-beaten fifth in the Grade 3 Peter Pan in his most recent start, Master Plan in his prior race was third, beaten 1 1/2 lengths, in the UAE Derby at Meydan, finishing behind Thunder Snow and Epicharis.
Linda Rice is sending in a horse for each stakes; she has Tizsomethingroyal in the Obeah and Super Dude in the Stanton. New York rider Mike Luzzi is named on both horses.
Mo’ Green, a 4-year-old daughter of Uncle Mo, is 4 for 12 in her career. She has made two starts since being transferred to trainer John Servis.
She won the Grade 3 Top Flight Invitational at Aqueduct in her debut for Servis and most recently was third to runaway winner Terra Promessa in the Grade 3 Allaire duPont Distaff at Pimlico on May 19. Both races were at the Obeah’s distance.
Power of Snunner, a 7-year-old Pennsylvania-bred, was second to Unbridled Mo in the Grade 3 Doubledogdare at Keeneland in April. Last out, she finished fourth in the duPont, a neck behind Mo’ Green.
Money’soncharlotte and Enterprising Lady both come into the Obeah off third-level optional-claiming wins at Parx Racing.
Money’soncharlotte, trained by Kelly Breen, will be making her second start at Delaware Park. She was wiped out at the start of last year’s Del Cap when I’m a Chatterbox broke inward, causing a chain-reation bumping incident.
Enterprising Lady is trained by Jamie Ness, who has won four of the last five training titles at Delaware Park, and will be ridden by Carol Cedeno, who has won the last three riding titles.
◗ In the Stanton, Adonis Creed, Bird’s Eye View, and Undulated come out of the James W. Murphy Stakes on Preakness Day at Pimlico, where the Bill Mott-trained Yoshida won in impressive fashion.
Bird’s Eye View, trained by Mike Dini, was cross-entered in a first-level optional-claiming race at Belmont Park on Friday.
