Mo Forza targets Del Mar Mile for comeback

Five-time stakes winner Mo Forza will be ready for his 2021 debut in the Grade 2 Del Mar Mile on Aug. 21, trainer Peter Miller said over the weekend.

Mo Forza has not raced since winning the Grade 2 City of Hope Mile at Santa Anita last October. He was a candidate for the Breeders’ Cup Mile last fall when he sustained a soft-tissue injury.

A 5-year-old by Uncle Mo, Mo Forza worked seven furlongs in 1:26 at the San Luis Rey Downs training center on Saturday.

“He’s training like his old self,” Miller said. “One more work and we’ll be ready with him. He tends to runs well fresh.”

Miller said leading rider Flavien Prat will ride Mo Forza in the Del Mar Mile.

Miller also plans to start Neptune’s Storm in the $300,000 Del Mar Mile. Neptune’s Storm won the restricted Wickerr Stakes at a mile on turf on July 18 at Del Mar under Prat. Juan Hernandez will ride Neptune’s Storm in the Del Mar Mile, according to Miller.
