After dueling through honest fractions, Miz Mayhem was able to hold off Island Reward to win the $75,000 Nicole’s Dream Stakes by 1 1/2 lengths at Gulfstream Park on Sunday. Miz Mayhem paid $5.40 and posted a final time of 55.64 seconds in the 5-furlong dash for fillies and mares over firm turf. Breaking sharply with Edgard Zayas aboard, she vied for the lead with Sound Defence, who posted a 21.31 quarter-mile time.  She got her head in front at the top of the stretch, opened up a 1 1/2-length advantage over Sound Defence at the eighth-pole and was able to hold off the late charge by Island Reward.  Island Reward broke a step slow and after trailing the field she finished full of run but came up short. Bones  stalked the pace, and after taking over second midstretch, she gave up the runner-up position late while finishing a neck behind Island Reward. Trained by Edward Plesa, it was the fourth straight win for the 3-year-old homebred by Yesbyjimminy. She is owned by Laurie Plesa. The $45,105 winner’s share of the purse boosted her earnings to $203,825.
